EAT @ Sukjai Thai

Whangarei has an overload of Thai restaurants which is reflective of locals addiction to the asian cuisine.  My top pick however has always been Suk Jai Thai located on Kamo Road in Kensington.  Anong and his family moved north from Christchurch after the 2011 quakes destroyed their restaurant in search of a ‘new area to continue their business.  They must have been a huge hit in the south as well because there are constantly travellers stopping in on their way through to catch up with Anong and his staff.

Sukjai is one of five restaurants that received a premium award from the prime minister of Thailand in 2013 and is given to restaurants that serve authentic Thai cuisine at a high standard.

Their menu boasts your standard Thai staples – Pad Thai, Green Curry and spring rolls but my regular go to orders are the Som Tum Salad and house speciality – Sukjai Penang.  They are skilled in hosting large groups and provide banquet menus and have no issues with split payments.  Front of house staff are all exceptionally friendly and helpful and service is always timely.
