Whare Waka is the only eaterie on the treaty grounds located at the bottom near the waka house, poignantly named. It is fully licenced and offers both A la carte and off the cabinet dining.
The cafe has great indoor/outdoor seating however be careful of territorial ducks and their chicks who are prone to breaking out in fights under your feet. Entertaining but sometimes a little unsettling to observe!
I ordered a meal for my girl, a meal for myself and a thick-shake which all came to $20, pretty good going if you are on a budget.
They offer a great range of food with kids meals for $9 being plentiful. My daughters fish bites and chips were delicious and made with fresh fish and crunchy potatoes. A big meal for a 3 year old!
I was also impressed with the healthy options available, quinoa salad, raw beetroot salad and the salmon and asparagus quiche which was beautiful.
The service was friendly, fast and the cashier applied a discount to our meals for no reason other than to be kind.
All the food coming out looked fresh, large and scrumptious. I will definitely be going back to this cafe when back in the bay.
